Flicker: Not your friend
ON Semiconductor had several demos around energy harvesting, their automotive-grade NFC device, an IoT IDK, and their new USB-C 1.3 devices with a demo displaying a PC being charged at 100W using USB. Alos show was a fully AEC-Q100 qualified version of the company’s ARO237 CMOS image sensor for the OEM-fitted dash cam or before-market, in-car DVR market. The demo showed a real automotive scene with a traffic-sign LED board. Even in High Dynamic Range (HDR), there was no apparent flicker like you would see with a normal camera. Unlike other automotive image sensors, the ARO237 can completely detect an LED traffic sign and an HDR scene, useful for the various light conditions we can’t control (bright sun, cloudy, etc.
