A first look at solid-state Lidar
There is a huge push to reduce the size and cost of Lidar sensors. Another goal is to turn Lidar sensing into a solid-state process instead of one requiring the whirling mechanical contraptions evident on autonomous vehicle prototypes. One of the solid-state Lidars to emerge is the HR80 (left) from Cepton Technologies Inc. Cepton has come up with a smaller, more compact version, here being held by Cepton senior director Wei Wei. The Cepton Lidar sensor detects objects out past 200 m and works with the Mentor automotive platform.
