Lattice Semiconductor wins coveted 2022 LEAP Award

October 18, 2022 By Aimee Kalnoskas

Lattice Semiconductor took home one of the two gold medals in the Embedded Computing category in the recently completed 2022 Leap Awards for product innovation.

LEAP AwardsThe LEAP Awards celebrates the most innovative and forward-thinking products serving the design engineering space. Lattice Semiconductor tied for the gold in the Embedded Computing category, which includes microcontrollers (MCUs) or microprocessors (MPUs) or other custom-designed chips, and supporting software in ROM (Read Only Memory) that comprise embedded computing. Also included are development tools and operating systems, computer boards, systems, and components, storage, and wired and wireless connectivity, including IoT and IIoT.

Leveraging Lattice’s innovations in FPGA fabric architecture combined with a low-power FD-SOI manufacturing process, Lattice CertusPro-NX advanced general-purpose FPGAs deliver exceptional performance while consuming up to 4X less power than similar competitive devices. By supporting 8 programmable SERDES lanes capable of speeds up to 10.3 Gbps, CertusPro-NX FPGAs deliver the highest system bandwidth in their class, enabling popular communication and display interfaces like 10 Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express, SLVS-EC, CoaXPress, and DisplayPort.

To meet demand for robust data co-processing in edge artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications, CertusPro-NX FPGAs also feature up to 65% more available on-chip memory than other similar FPGAs and are currently the only low power FPGAs supporting the LPDDR4 DRAM memory standard, which is preferred due to its projected long-term availability.

The general purpose FPGA makes it an optimal solution for a range of applications for the communications, compute, industrial, automotive, and consumer markets. However, with up to 100X lower Soft Error Rate (SER) and temperature ranges from -40 degrees Celsius to 125 degrees Celsius, CertusPro-NX is particularly ideal for ruggedized applications. Mission-critical applications in the automotive, industrial, aerospace and defense, and communications industries require highly reliable performance to ensure safe, standardized results. CertusPro-NX FPGAs are more reliable and better suited for these applications than similar competitive devices. Form factor is also a key design consideration for many developers. With a package footprint as small as of 81 mm2, CertusPro-NX FPGAs are up to 6.5X smaller than competing devices, giving system designers the computing capability they need in a compact package that helps keep the design streamlined.

CertusPro-NX currently offers the highest logic density of any of Lattice’s Nexus based FPGAs, with support for up to 100k logic cells. It outperforms competitor devices in power efficiency, bandwidth, reliability, and small form factor. When compared against Xilinx Arix-7 100K LC and Intel Cyclone V GT 77K LC, CertusPro-NX 100K LC device provides up to 4X lower power, 2X more bandwidth, and 6.5X smaller package size. With 10G SERDES coupled with packages as small as 9×9 mm, CertusPro-NX delivers the highest bandwidth in the smallest form factor. The same devices compared side-by-side also show that CertusPro-NX provides up to 65% more internal memory capacity. It is also the only device in its class to support LPDDR4 external memory interface.
