24-Port military rugged 3U VPX Ethernet switch includes PTP TC capability

November 15, 2016 By Aimee Kalnoskas Leave a Comment

ontimenetworksOnTime Networks, a global leader for rugged, time synchronized Ethernet solutions for the Aerospace and Defense Industry, announced today the expansion of its military-grade Gigabit Ethernet switch portfolio with the new CloudberryMIL CM-5000 Series.

The new Cloudberry CM-5000 Series is a 3U OpenVPX Fully Managed Layer 2/3 Ethernet Switch providing 24 Gigabit Ethernet and four 10Gigabit Ethernet ports. Specifically designed to reliably provide high-performance connectivity for harsh climatically and noisy electrical demanding environments (e.g. high altitude, extreme shock, & vibration, extended temperatures, humidity, dust & water exposure, noisy EMI, dirty power) for applications on land, in the air and on sea.

OnTime Networks’ CloudberryMIL CM-5000 Series is a high-performance 3U VPX Gigabit Ethernet Switch line for embedded and harsh environment applications. The CM-5000-MIL 3U VPX Ethernet switch series is compliant with the latest VICTORY specification as an Infrastructure Switch, with a powerful set of networking features to implement highly advanced in-vehicle network architectures. VICTORY is short for Vehicular Integration for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance/Electronic Warfare (C4ISR/EW) Interoperability. This single-slot switch solution provides the essential foundation to implement a VICTORY architecture in today’s modern networked and SWaP-sensitive vehicles.

With the CM-5000-MIL, OnTime Networks is able to leverage its extensive industry experience and technology leadership to deliver a rugged VPX switch solution that provides high performance and lower SWaP for military system applications. The CM-5000-MIL is based on the layer 3 switch core with up to 24 Gigabit Ethernet Ports and up to four (4) 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports. The unit offers the unique capability for multiple combinations of 10 Gigabit interfaces, such as XAUI, 10GBASE-T and 10GBASE-KR. The CM-5000-MIL Gigabit Ethernet switch line is designed to support advanced network architectures for the defense industry. Supporting an extremely low power and fast boot architecture, the CM-5000-MIL can be used to connect modules within a VPX system, or externally to other systems or sensors. Each 1G capable port supports legacy 10Mbps and 100Mbps connections. Auto-negotiation ensures that any connected Ethernet device can connect seamlessly to the CM-5000-MIL. All Base-T ports support auto-MDI/MDIX which provides trouble-free connections using both straight-thru as well as cross-over connections.

The CM-5000-MIL 3U VPX switch provides an extensive set of networking features and supports familiar industry standards, such as Command Line Interface (CLI) for setup and configuration, as well as SNMP and web management interfaces. Its simplified browser-based user interface is an intuitive management tool, enabling convenient use of the switch’s comprehensive feature set for a better optimized network. The rugged CM-5000-MIL combines the latest networking hardware and software technology into a cost-effective building block for all rugged deployed systems.

With additional features such as Energy Efficient Ethernet and Precision Time Protocol (IEEE-1588v2/ PTP) support, the CM-5000-MIL enhances the networking capabilities in today’s SWaP-sensitive applications. CM-5000-MIL mechanical and electrical design guarantees reliable operation over the full range of rugged application environments.

The CM-5000-MIL is a complete networking solution, with pre-integrated and optimized software that runs on its on-board processor. All software is included for the full suite of Layer 2/3 switching functionality and protocols, along with a comprehensive set of management interfaces to configure and monitor the switch.

The CM-5000-MIL is designed to be fully VITA 46/VITA 48/ VITA 65/OpenVPX compliant.
