High-precision oscillators boost base station, high-end router performance

January 6, 2017 By Lee Teschler Leave a Comment

NDK NH20M20LB and NH37M28LK High-Precision oscillators are designed to raise the bar for frequency accuracy in base stations for mobile communications systems, high-end routers, test and measurement equipment and other synthesizer applications. The NH25M22TA is available for SMT applications. The NH37M28LK and NH20M20LB each have through-hole PC mounting pins. The use of proprietary DSP technology for precise temperature control delivers excellent frequency stability over a -40 to +85°C operating range, with very low phase noise.

Each OCXO is packaged in a hermetically-sealed metal enclosure for maximum environmental performance and reliability. For applications centering on a 10MHz timebase, the NH37M28LK offers the highest performance, with a long-term frequency stability of +0.2×10-9/day (max) or +50 x10-9/year (max), after seven-day operation. Holdover is typically 1 µsec/8 h. Fine frequency adjustments can be made by digital control methods (I2C) or voltage control.

The NH20M20LB is available in a choice of 12 common frequencies within a range of 5 to 40 MHz. Custom frequencies are also available for volume applications. The variety of available output frequencies allows additional application in optical transmission systems, such as a local oscillator with a coherent receiver circuit. Long-term frequency stability is also excellent: +1×10-9/day (max) or +80 x10-9/year (max).

The OCXOs are available with a CMOS output and have a duty cycle of 45 to 55%, with a load impedance of 15 pF. Both devices are RoHS Compliant and lead Free. The NH20M20LB measures 21.5.0 x 21.5 mm, with a profile height of 11 mm. The NH37M28LK has a footprint of 37.0 x 28 mm with a height of 16 mm.

In production quantities, prices start at $50.00 for the NH20M20LB and $90 for the NH37M28LK. Delivery: 4-6 weeks for samples; 14 weeks for OEM quantities.
