The electronics distributor Mouser Electronics will put out a version of a free SPICE simulator developed by National Instruments Inc. Called MultiSIM BLUE, the simulator will let designers run SPICE simulations using components from Mouser Electronics.
Mouser says MultiSIM BLUE will include more than 100,000 electronic components to let designers more easily visualize and evaluate linear performance. Besides running simulations, engineers can use the program to create schematics and build printed circuit board layouts. All in all, MultiSIM BLUE gives users the ability to plan and simulate, plus it handles PCB layout, Bill of Materials (BOM) and purchasing.
Simulation is driven by the same advanced parser technology as NI Multisim software with support from BSIM and other advanced parameters. Unlike other tools, MultiSIM BLUE provides a fully interactive schematic interface with a full-right-click menu. The program includes a fully integrated wiring and reviewing platform and supports component types that include passives, discretes, analog ICs, discrete signal ICs, mixed signal ICs, sensors, power ICs and protection devices.
National Instruments will continue to offer its version of Multisim. The primary difference in simulations between the commercial version from NI and the free version from Mouser is in the number of parts-per-board, Mouser says. The Mouser version will handle 50 parts/board. The NI commercial version handles an unlimited number of parts/board.
