Top microcontroller threads on EDAboard.com – October

PIC output is just 2.5V – The PIC18f4550 output voltage is said to be 5v but instead I get just 2.5v. I tried by disconnecting the load but even then it is just 2.5v.What could be the problem? Read more

2-inch, 7-segment display – I am using 2-inch, 7-segment display but data is not showing in the display. I connect the port of the 8051 to the display directly (according to the program). Is the 2803 IC required for the current sink? Read more

Microcontrollers versus Microprocessors – Since in most applications, people use a microcontroller with external memory, why don’t I use a microprocessor with external memory and external I/O? Will it save cost? How about battery life? Read more

PRINTF not working in AVR Studio 7 – Suddenly, the PRINTF is not working in AVR studio. I don’t know what happened. This is the code, but it doesn’t output anything to the debug window. Read more

PRINTF code

First booting up of MSP430-based board – I designed a MSP430-based PCB board (in Eagle) for my application and have used the following basic connections on the board:
oscillator (XOUT/XIN),
power (AVCC,DVCCL,etc.),
TDO/TDI/TCK/TMS, and
a few GPIOs…

Are there any other connections that are required to startup the microcontroller? Also what is the procedure to program the board once it is fabricated (suppose I want to do simple toggling of a pin)? Read more

Comparing the function output – How can compare the result of the function output (ADD CODE)? Read more

32-bit PIC maximum I/O changing speed – I want to know how fast I can change my output pin’s state. Its system clock is 80MHz and the peripheral clock is 10 MHz. Read more

PIC18F4550 unable to do per-byte addressing – Why am I having such strange issues with struct member access? (see below) BTW: sizeof(TEST) = 4. Read more
per byte addressing

Connect DC motor to microcontroller – If I connect a DC motor to my Arduino in this way, how could I know what is the current that flows through the motor when the transistor is on? There is no any resistor between the 5v to the motor. Read more

Adding Eagle PCB designer software to PIC18F4550 – I want to design PCB for my PIC18F4550 board. But this part is not available in Eagle. How do I add it? Read more
