Nuvoton Technology has released the NuMicro M5531 series of microcontrollers, designed for embedded systems that require high computing performance and advanced signal processing. Based on the Arm Cortex-M55 processor, the devices operate at speeds up to 220 MHz and deliver up to 371 DMIPS of processing capability. The series provides strong noise immunity, verified by 3 kV ESD and 4.4 kV EFT compliance, supporting reliable operation in electrically noisy environments.
The M5531 architecture uses a 64-bit AXI bus to enable high-bandwidth data transfer and low-latency memory access. Dedicated Tightly Coupled Memory (64 KB instruction and 128 KB data) supports time-critical operations. Hardware acceleration features include Arm Helium vector extensions, a double-precision floating-point unit, a graphics DMA accelerator, and an integrated cryptographic engine. The devices include up to 1.5 MB of SRAM and 2 MB of on-chip flash, reducing the need for external memory in most applications.
To support secure embedded designs, the M5531 integrates multiple hardware-based protections meeting PSA Level 2 requirements. These include Arm TrustZone, Secure Boot, a cryptographic suite (AES-256, ECC-571, RSA-4096, SHA-512, HMAC-512), Key Store and Key Derivation modules, a True Random Number Generator, execute-only and one-time programmable memories, and tamper-detection inputs.
The series includes a wide set of communication and control peripherals: 10/100 Ethernet MAC with RMII, dual CAN FD channels, I3C, multiple USB 2.0 interfaces, UART, SPI, I2C, QSPI, SDIO, PDM microphone, and PWM outputs. Analog resources include dual 12-bit ADCs supporting up to 48 channels, dual 12-bit DACs, comparators, and other mixed-signal interfaces. Dynamic power consumption is rated at 94.5 µA/MHz, and dedicated low-power peripherals such as LPSRAM and LPADC maintain functionality in sleep modes.
Software support includes drivers, example projects, and compatibility with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, and RT-Thread operating systems. The devices also support GUI libraries such as emWin, LVGL, and Qt for MCUs for human-machine interface applications. Target markets include industrial automation, IoT, building management, and sensor-fusion systems.
The M5531 series is available in LQFP176 (24 × 24 mm), LQFP128 (14 × 14 mm), and LQFP64 (10 × 10 mm) packages.
