December 13, 2018 By Aimee Kalnoskas Leave a Comment

At the LEAP Awards dinner gala in Costa Mesa, Calif., the following companies were awarded trophies in the category of Embedded Computing.

This year’s inaugural LEAP Awards competition honored ground-breaking new products that set a new standard for innovation. Judges rated candidates on categories that included societal impact, industry impact, technical sophistication, creativity, and value to customers.

Beth P. Quezada of Microchip Technology accepts the Embedded Computing winning LEAP Award from WTWH’s Michelle Flando.

Three judges chose finalists for the Embedded Computing category: Plamen Doynov, Research Professor, University of Missouri-Kansas City: Geoffrey T. Haigh, Principal/Senior Partner, Haigh Consulting LLP; and Kristin Morris, Lead Electrical Engineer, Pacific Diabetes Technologies.

The finalists, in no particular order, were: Mentor, A Siemens Business for Mentor Embedded IoT Framework (MEIF); Microchip Technology Inc. for SAM L11; and RelChip, Inc. for Extreme Operating Microelectronics (EOM).

The winner in the Embedded Computing category is Microchip Technology Inc. for SAM L11 MCU families based on the Arm Cortex-M23 core, with the SAM L11 featuring Arm TrustZone for Armv8-M, a programmable environment that provides hardware isolation between certified libraries, IP and application code.

The judges commented: “This submission is brilliantly designed with security in mind from the start and integrates commonly used peripherals for IoT devices. … a good balance of speed, capability, and security versus power and cost.”

Congratulations to all of this year’s finalists and winners!
