What lies beneath an ADAS
Beneath the autonomous vehicle software that recognizes pedestrians, cars, and road signs lies middleware and operating systems designed specifically for the task. This particular demonstration of feature recognition capabilities was set up by Green Hills Software. The image recognition package runs on top of two pieces of Green Hills software, the Integrity RTOS and Integrity Multivisor, both optimized for ADAS use. The RTOS has memory protection and a scheme that ensures a problem with a low-level service doesn’t bollix up a high criticality service. The Multivisor simultaneously runs whole operating systems in secure partitions so, say, an infotainment system can run alongside a rear-view camera routine and an ADAS.
