Hanging by a Thread? Not this network
Part of the seminar covers a mesh network scheme called Thread. Its claim to fame is that it looks a lot like IPv6 and doesn’t have much network overhead. Nest uses Thread on its smart thermostats and other products. The scheme runs on 802.15.4 products and seems to have advantages if your plan is to field Internet-of-Things appliances without much computing power. For Thread network exercises, attendees first download Tera Term, an open-source terminal emulator. The Rigado boards end up being Thread routers of various kinds and Thread end devices. The terminal emulator is used to put the boards on the Thread network, get information about neighbors.
And if everything works as planned, attendees form a Thread network with their Rigado boards.
