Post-quantum cryptography support included in compact baseboard management controller design

October 14, 2025 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

Nuvoton Technology Corporation has introduced the Arbel NPCM8mnx System-in-Package, a baseboard management controller subsystem designed for AI servers and datacenter platforms. The SiP integrates multiple BMC components into a single package to reduce implementation complexity.

The NPCM8mnx-SiP measures 23x23mm² in a BGA package format, which represents approximately 70% less area than discrete component implementations. The integrated design targets AI accelerator cards, multi-node compute systems, remote access modules, and edge datacenter deployments.

The package includes the Arbel NPCM8mnx BMC, embedded DDR4 memory in configurations from 1GB to 4GB, eMMC storage ranging from 8GB to 64GB, and NOR Flash from 16MB to 128MB. The SiP also incorporates a reference clock oscillator, voltage regulators, and more than 120 passive components. This integration eliminates requirements for high-speed signal simulations, power sequencing design, and extended PCB layout work during product development.

The NPCM8mnx-SiP is built on the Arbel A3 architecture and implements Post-Quantum Cryptography LMS algorithms for secure boot operations. The device supports DICE Unique Secrets generation and accommodates customer-specific key provisioning. The design meets OCP S.A.F.E. and FIPS 140-3 compliance requirements.

The SiP maintains compatibility with existing Arbel software stacks, including OpenBMC, OP-TEE, U-Boot, Linux, and pRoT secure firmware implementations. This compatibility supports integration into open compute environments and existing datacenter infrastructure.

Engineering samples of the NPCM8mnx-SiP are currently available.
