Big data? SMASH it
It was the equivalent of a kid in a candy store for developers of embedded devices and trying to ingest it all was no mean feat — like figuring out how to fit all the data necessary to perform a multitude of communications, security and other functions on a tiny microcontroller with just a few kilobytes of RAM. Amidst a healthy offering of hardware and software tools with security libraries to support developers for any embedded device, SEGGER took the opportunity at Embedded World to showcase their emCompress product line. The latest member, emCompress-OnTheGo, includes a compression algorithm that is suited to run on the smallest MCUs — the Small Microcontroller Advanced Super High (SMASH) Compressor. SMASH can decompress data with only a few bytes on the stack. emCompress-OnTheGo comes with the small and fast SMASH compressor and decompressor in the source code that can be included into any application, firmware, or bootloader.
