Stack, flex, heat
Today’s designs need to shave memory, power, and space. The 1.27 mm (0.05″) pitch, Archer Kontrol connectors from Harwin on display at Embedded World were presented as a sort of “halfway house product” — in between the high current-carrying load of the larger, 2.54mm pitch and the connectors for the consumer market that are now needed to withstand the additional demands of the factory floor. All the connectors in this mid-level range feature fully shrouded and recessed contacts to prevent accidental damage to the miniature contacts. The shrowding is also shaped to provide a positive polarization to enable assembly in only one direction. Additionally, surface-mount retention tabs and pegs inhibit movement during the soldering process.
